Texas has produced and influenced countless world-renowned musicians and performers for as long as people have been listening to music. Not to sound like we’re bragging, but our bench is deep. Black Pumas

Austin-based Adrian Quesada and Eric Burton formed Black Pumas in 2017 and released their debut album in 2019.

 

Khruangbin & Leon Bridges

Song: Texas Sun / Genre: R&B

The musical trio Khruangbin is from Houston and Leon Bridges grew up in Fort Worth, making this collaboration genuinely Texan. 

 

Gary Clark Jr.

Song: Low Down Rolling Stone / Genre: Blues, Rock

Gary Clark Jr. was born and raised in Austin, where he honed his sound playing local bars and clubs as a teenager.

 

Bob Schneider

Song: Easier With You / Genre: Folk, Rock, Funk

Bob Schneider was born in Austin, and it’s impossible to talk about the local music scene without mentioning his name.

 

Maren Morris

Song: The Bones / Genre: Country Pop

Born in Arlington, Maren Morris began learning the guitar at the age of 12. Three years later, she released her debut studio album.

 

Khalid

Song: Talk / Genre: R&B, Soul

Khalid got his start in El Paso while attending high school and posting his songs online. Before his senior year ended, he was already on the Billboard charts.

 

Travis Scott

Song: Butterfly Effect / Genre: Trap, Hip-Hop

Houston native Travis Scott signed his first label deal in 2012 and has since gone on to receive both critical and commercial acclaim.

 

White Denim

Song: Magazin / Genre: Indie Rock, Garage

White Denim formed in Austin in 2006, playing the local bar scene. They’ve since become prolific musicians, having released 12 albums.

 

Ghostland Observatory

Song: Sometimes / Genre: Electronic Rock

This Austin duo began performing together in 2004. Vocalist Aaron Behrens is from San Saba, and percussionist Thomas Turner was born in Pecos. 

 

Solange

Song: Cranes in the Sky / Genre: R&B, Pop

Solange is from Houston and has been performing on her own since age 16 when she released her first studio album.

 

Kacey Musgraves

Song: Butterflies / Genre: Country Pop

One of Nashville’s top stars, Kacey Musgraves was born in Golden, Texas. Her career took off in 2008 when she was living in Austin.

 

Spoon

Song: Hot Thoughts / Genre: Indie Rock

Formed in 1993, Spoon is one of Austin’s most well-known acts. Lead singer and founder Britt Daniel was born in Galveston.

 

Shakey Graves

Song: Mansion Door / Genre: Blues, Folk, Alternative

A true Austin native, Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia) got his start in 2011 with his solo debut album, Roll the Bones. 

 

Eisley

Song: Louder Than a Lion / Genre: Indie Rock

Sherri DuPree and her siblings formed the Towheads in 1997 in Tyler, Texas. They later became Eisley and in 2004, they released their first major label album. Current members include Sherri and her cousin, Garron.

 

Selena

Song: Como la Flor / Genre: Tejano

Selena is often referred to as the Queen of Tejano. A Lake Jackson native, she called Corpus Christi home. She was killed tragically in 1995.

 

Beyoncé

Song: Love on Top / Genre: R&B, Pop

Beyoncé needs no introduction. She was born and raised in Houston and found early fame as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child. Her first solo album was released in 2003.

 

Willie Nelson

Song: On the Road Again / Genre: Country

Willie Nelson is arguably the epitome of Texas country music. He was born in Abbott, Texas, but found his outlaw sound in Austin.
