The refuge, open for day use only, focuses on preserving nesting habitats for the golden-cheeked warbler (Warbler Vista and Doeskin Ranch) and the black-capped vireo (Shin Oak Observation Deck--excluding the end of March through mid-April to allow vireos to set up nesting territories).
The deck and Doeskin Ranch are closed for four weekends from mid-November-mid-December during hunting season. Call prior to visiting for exact dates.
From U.S. 183, take F.M. 1869 approximately nine miles to the observation deck; Warbler Vista is west of Lago Vista on R.M. 1431.
