"Luminosity and Shadows": Recent Paintings by Barbara Able

Barbara Able explores the idea that intellectual inspiration is enlightening and becomes visible in the luminous quality of her artwork. The shadows referenced in the title represent the wild beasts that humans evolved alongside of and still feel a strong connection with through their pets and other animals. These large abstractions, delicate watercolors inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe and Frida Kahlo, and vibrant collages of pop icons reflect Able’s ongoing study of art history and literature, as well as her interest in contemporary culture.
