The acclaimed Sammons Jazz concert series celebrates its 25th year with a special fall schedule featuring its three past and current artistic directors.
The fall season kicks off September 3 with "The Genesis" featuring the Vicho Vicencio Jazz and Latin Band and the Dallas Jazz Harp Ensemble.
On October 1, Texas jazz legend Roger Boykin, who served as the second artistic director of Sammons Jazz, fronts the Roger Boykin Trio. Sweethearts of Rhythm, a jam-packed collection of women jazz artists, including four vocalists and an all-female band, perform the second set.
On November 5, beloved bassist James Gilyard and the James Gilyard Ensemble perform the opening set, followed by a second set by the Frank Hailey Trio.
The fall season wraps up December 3 with The Brethren, featuring current Sammons Jazz artistic director and pianist Arlington Jones with famed guitarist Dwight Sills. The Shelley Carrol Quartet, led by the well-known saxophonist, takes the stage for the closing set.
All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. and feature two performance sets of about one hour each with an intermission between.
