"The Firebird" and "Agon"

Sparks fly as Ballet Austin presents two fantastic ballets, both with dramatic scores by Igor Stravinsky. "The Firebird"--adapted from a Russian folk tale--follows the tradition of ballet as whole theater, with rich and exotic designs, controversial drama and a flow of steps unimpeded by virtuosic ballet tricks. This is paired with George Balanchine’s great masterwork, "Agon." Composed of a number of the movements based on 17th-century French court dance--saraband, galliard and branle--the score for this neoclassical work is an example of Stravinsky's move from a diatonic musical language to one based on the 12-tone technique. Presented by Ballet Austin, with live musical accompaniment by the Austin Symphony Orchestra.
