Wari Lords of the Ancient Andes

In the wake of a sixth century drought that ravaged the central Andes, the Wari developed a complex civilization during the next four centuries that many regard as South America's first empire, untouched by European exploration. This exhibit includes 140 artworks in all major media in which the Wari worked--polychrome ceramics, ornaments made of precious metals or colorful mosaics, sculptured wood and stone objects, and textiles of striking complexity.
