Bastrop's historic Main Street District is lined with shops housed in structures from the turn of the 20th century. More than 130 buildings here are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Main Street and Fisherman's Park on the Colorado River offer picnicking, fishing and boating. The historic Iron Bridge has been converted to a park above the Colorado River.

Annual events include NatureFest and YesterFest in April, the Fourth of July Weekend Patriotic Festival, Bastrop Homecoming/Rodeo and the SUP Cup in August, the Veterans Weekend Car Show in November, and Lost Pines Christmas and River of Lights in December.
