This town was named for a noted frontiersman and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. The Caldwell-Kraitchar House Museum, housed in an 1891 Victorian cottage-style home, is open for tours by appointment (979/567-0000). Bed-and-breakfast accommodations are offered in historic buildings The town has been named the "Kolache Capital of Texas" by the Texas Legislature and hosts a Kolache Festival in September. Caldwell is on a segment of the Ports-to-Plains Highway connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports.
