Eagle Lake, "The Goose Hunting Capital of the World," is named for the lake where Stephen F. Austin and his explorers killed an eagle in 1821. The town is a Texas Main Street City and on the Texas Independence Trail (texasindependencetrail.com). The city is nestled on the central migratory flyway, making it possible to see more than 250 species of birds in the area.
