The town was named for Sgt. William Jasper, a hero of the American Revolution. The town square features a historic courthouse, bed-and-breakfasts, art galleries, outdoor sculptures, antique shops, murals and the old county jail. The historic Beaty-Orton House may be toured by appointment (409/384-4651). Sandy Creek Park features a playground, fishing ponds, walking trail, picnic areas and a pavilion over the water. Events include the Jasper Air Show, Azalea Festival in March, Dam to Dam Bike Ride in April, Jasper Lions Club Rodeo in May and Christmas in the Park in November.
