At the headwaters of the Guadalupe River, Kerrville is popular for fishing, paddling, swimming and picnicking. Visitors also enjoy shopping as well as theater and musical performances. Options include the restored Cailloux Theater, the Symphony of the Hills Orchestra, the amphitheater in Louise Hays Park, and the outdoor theater in Kerrville-Schreiner Park. Hunters find game year-round. A number of bird species are found here, including rarities like the golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo.
Louise Hays Park and Lehmann & Monroe Parks feature an interactive fountain, and a dog park. Public and private golf courses are available in the area.
Events include the Kerrville Folk Festival on Memorial Day weekend; Kerrville Festival of the Arts and Texas Masters of Fine Art & Craft in May; the Hill Country Easter Bike Tour; and the Kerr County Fair and the Chalk Festival in October.
