The city was named for the waterfalls over marble outcroppings that were visible before the dam was built to form Lake Marble Falls. The pink granite from nearby Granite Mountain was used to construct the State Capitol in Austin. Granite continues to be quarried here. The area provides lots of birding opportunities. Hunting, fishing and camping also are popular. The city offers golf, spas, dining, art galleries, shopping and horseback riding opportunities. City parks include boat-launch ramps.
