The town’s Commercial District is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and on the National Parks Service Route 66 Travel Itinerary. A restored 1930s Phillips 66 station lies on the old westbound U.S. 66, and murals along Main Street depict the history of the town and area. McLean also is the former site of a World War II German prisoner-of-war camp.
