The town was established near an artesian well used by traders. It is in the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Main Street City. Historic Mineola offers specialty shops and art galleries. The restored Depot houses the Railroad Museum and is an Amtrak Texas Eagle stop (800/USA-Rail).
