This community's founders wanted to call their settlement Westphalia for their native region of Germany, but after discovering a town of that name had already been established, they called their colony Muenster, after the region's capital city. Germanfest is celebrated in April and Oktoberfest in October.

Muenster's German customs and Texas hospitality blend well, and visitors are always willkommen. Be sure to visit the glockenspiel, the German-style clock tower with music and carved wooden dancing figures that appear at the top of each hour (during business hours), at Main and Second streets. It's one of just a few glockenspiels in the country.
