Centrally located, between Austin and Waco, Salado was founded as part of the Robertson's Colony Texas Land Grant and became a stop on the Chisholm Trail. Today, visitors find boutiques, artists and galleries, antiques, entertainment, historic lodging and the renowned 27-hole Mill Creek Golf Course. There are more than 30 sites with national and/or state historical markers, including Salado Creek. The visitor’s center offers information on local attractions and events, such as the Scottish Gathering and Highland Games, Texas History Days in Salado, Salado Christmas Stroll, Royal Street Art Walk, and the annual Art Fair.
