Discover San Angelo, an oasis in west Texas. The Concho River runs through the middle of the city, and the four-mile Concho River Walk was named a Great Place in America in 2017. Stroll along the river and see a variety of Art in Uncommon Places. Found only in the waters of the Concho River, the Concho Pearl is produced by a fresh water mussel and the pearls are available for purchase in jewelry stores throughout the city. San Angelo serves as a hub for medical tourism in the region and is also home to Goodfellow Air Force Base, the community’s largest employer. Angelo State University and Howard College provide post-secondary education options. The wool and mohair markets are strong in San Angelo, as are livestock and agriculture. Uniquely San Angelo restaurants and nightlife abound in the community, offering a variety of food and beverage options. A strong music scene exists in San Angelo, from grassroots entertainment at venues like the Chicken Farm Art Center to Broadway productions at the newly renovated Murphey Performance Hall.
San Angelo has fantastic events, the largest of which is the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo, held for three weeks in February. Other events include the Regional Cavalry Competition and Christmas at Old Fort Concho, along with the monthlong Concho Christmas Celebration, held on the Concho River for 25 years.
