Known historically as the Stockman's Paradise, ranchers sought the rich "boot-high" grasslands that once defined the area. Historic Downtown has the restored Sutton County Courthouse, with other attractions within walking distance. The town reflects both the Texas Hill Country and Chihuahuan Desert in topography and wildlife. Hunters take wild turkey, white-tailed deer and axis deer. Events include the Dry Devils River Music Flood in October.
