The first settlers arrived in the area in 1848, but the town wasn't organized until 1873, when the railroad was built on donated land in return for a depot. Terrell is now a regional distribution center for several industries, including five Fortune 500 companies. The city is home to Southwestern Christian College and Trinity Valley Junior College. There are more than 20 historical markers and many historic homes, churches and buildings. For groups of 10 or more, the Terrell Heritage Society offers tours conducted by guides in period costume.
