In 1985, local cowboys formed teams for ranch activities, introducing a scoring system to determine the best working ranch. The event drew crowds, supported a local charity, and featured bronc riding, cow milking, and other contests. Over time, it grew into the internationally recognized Western Heritage Classic, celebrated for its ranch rodeo and diversity of activities including the Bit and Spur Show, a chuckwagon cookoff, and a Western parade, all honoring cowboy heritage and interests.
