My name is Chelsea Bancroft, and I am a travel blogger at onechelofanadventure.com. I have traveled all over the world, but love exploring my own backyard in Central Texas too — especially with friends! With that in mind, I’ve put together an itinerary of fun, outdoorsy things to do on a Hill Country weekend getaway! There is SO much to do in this area of Texas, so treat this itinerary as a jumping-off point to help plan your own trip.

DAY 1: FREDERICKSBURG

Start your Hill Country weekend in the beautiful town of Fredericksburg! Enjoy a morning hike at Enchanted Rock, followed by lunch, and then complete your day with tours of some of the best wineries in Central Texas.

Morning: Hike Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock, a huge pink granite dome that towers over the Texas Hill Country, is a very popular outdoor destination! With almost 11 miles of hiking trails, there is plenty to explore around the area. Check out their interactive trail map. Keep in mind, you do need to make a reservation online or over the phone and pay the entry fee ($8 per day, per person over age 13) before visiting!

Lunch in Fredericksburg

After working up an appetite, head to Fredericksburg for a post-hike lunch. There are lots of great restaurants and cafes in Fredericksburg with great outdoor seating options. Some of the most popular/highest rated include The Farm Haus Bistro at the Herb Farm, Sunset Grill and Hondo’s on Main.

Afternoon: Winery Tours

Spend the afternoon enjoying some of the Hill Country’s finest wines! Along Hwy 290, there are a countless number of wineries to visit for a tasting. William Chris Vineyards, Grape Creek, Becker Vineyards, Barons Creek Vineyards and Messina Hof are among the most popular to visit! Just be sure to have a designated driver.

Dinner: The Salt Lick

Finish your day trip off with some of the Hill Country’s best BBQ at The Salt Lick in Driftwood. The restaurant is BYOB, so it’s the perfect time to pop open a bottle of wine from one of your afternoon winery tours! Just remember that they are cash only.

After dinner, continue on to Wimberley, the next destination on your weekend getaway! Check into a hotel or Airbnb and get ready for a great next day. Here are some recommendations on where to stay in Wimberley:

Yurtopia

The RiverBluff yurts at Yurtopia are a great option for a girlfriends getaway! Located just outside of town, Yurtopia provides a fun glamping experience with incredible views of the Hill Country.

Creekhaven Inn

If you prefer a hotel, Creekhaven Inn is one of the top-rated in the area! This 16-room bed and breakfast inn has a small spa and is located only a 10-minute walk away from Wimberley Square.

DAY 2: WIMBERLEY

Day 2 is full of more outdoor fun! Enjoy the natural beauty of Wimberley with an exciting zipline adventure, a short hike with an epic view and one of the most beautiful swimming holes in Texas.

Morning: Wimberley Zipline Adventures

Start your day with some adventure! Head to Wimberley Zipline Adventures for some fun ziplining. The tour includes a total of 10 ziplines and lasts for about 2 hours.

Lunch: Wimberley

Head into Wimberley for some lunch at one of the many restaurants with great outdoor seating options! Local favorites include The Leaning Pear, Ino’z Brew & Chew and Community Pizza & Beer Garden.

Afternoon: Hike Up Old Baldy

For an awesome view of Wimberley, make a pit stop and hike up Old Baldy. It’s 218 rock steps to the top, but once up there, you’ll get a 360-degree view of Wimberley and the surrounding Hill Country!

Afternoon: Blue Hole Regional Park

One of the most beautiful swimming holes in Texas, Blue Hole Regional Park is a lush, hidden oasis. The park includes over 4 miles of trails, picnic areas, sports courts, a playscape and, most famously, the Blue Hole Swimming Area! Reservations are required and book out far in advance, so make sure to book early!

Dinner: The Shady Llama

End the day with dinner at The Shady Llama, an outdoor beer and wine garden that has incredible views of the Texas Hill Country. They offer a large selection of local beer and wine and often have multiple food trucks on site. You can play lawn games, relax in hammocks or make friends with the resident llamas and donkeys!

Stay the night in Wimberley again or head up to Lake Travis, the final destination on this 3-day weekend itinerary! If you prefer to drive to Lake Travis and stay the night there, here are a couple of options for places to stay:

Lakeway Resort and Spa

This is my favorite Lake Travis hotel. The rooms are great, the pool is gorgeous and the views of the lake are incredible! Lakeway Resort and Spa is a great option for a weekend getaway.

Vintage Villas Hotel & Events

Vintage Villas Hotel & Events also has an incredible view of Lake Travis! Its antique-styled rooms and suites come very highly rated.

DAY 3: LAKE TRAVIS

The final day of your Hill Country getaway will be spent lakeside! Begin the morning with another dose of adventure, spend the afternoon relaxing on a boat and finish the day with one of my favorite spots to watch the sunset!

Morning: Lake Travis Zipline Adventures

Start your morning with some adventure at Lake Travis Zipline Adventures. Book a zipline tour for some heart-pounding fun and incredible views of Lake Travis. The guided 3-hour tour has 5 zips, with the final one zipping over 2,800 feet of the lake!

Lunch: Beachside Billy’s

After an adventurous morning ziplining, head just down the road to Beachside Billy’s for lunch! It has a great open patio right on the lake and has great food.

Afternoon: Lake Travis Boat Rental

After lunch, it’s time to head out on the lake! With many boat rental companies to choose from, it just depends on what you’re looking for. If you want to just relax and cruise around the lake, a pontoon rental that comes with a captain might be best. If you want to wake surf or ski, then rent a ski boat instead! There are options that come with or without a captain for that as well. Check out the Lake Travis website for a list of the best rental companies.

Dinner: The Oasis on Lake Travis at Sunset

Finish off your day with dinner and a margarita at the infamous The Oasis on Lake Travis. With its sprawling patio and some of the best views on the lake, the Oasis is a must, especially at sunset!

So there you have it, a three-day itinerary to help kickstart your Texas Hill Country weekend getaway! As I said, there are so many things to do in this area, so use these ideas to help create your own custom itinerary.
