With a whopping 13-county wingspan, it should come as no surprise that there’s so much to do in the DFW Metroplex. For an iconic way to see the area, head over to the Grapevine Vintage Railroad.

Before you hop on the train, take a minute to explore Grapevine. Right across from the depot is a building full of fun things to do and see, like Vetro Glass Blowing Studio & Gallery, Holder Dane Gallery & Art Studios and Grapevine Foundry. While you’re there, you can shop for new treasures, admire art pieces and even book a class or two. Nearby, you can get a taste of local history at the Settlement to City Museums, which features exhibits, artifacts and hands-on activities depicting life on the Grape Vine Prairie. From downtown, you could catch the Grapevine Shuttle to visit other attractions like Nash Farm, Legoland® Discovery Center and the Sea Life Grapevine Aquarium.

Once you make your way back to the railroad, you can take a vintage locomotive all the way to Fort Worth while enjoying a specialized riding experience. Whether you’re into sipping wine, celebrating a holiday or hanging with the kids, this authentic steam engine has a ride for you. At the Stockyards, you can watch the twice-daily drive of the longhorn herd down Exchange Avenue and marvel at the historic garb of the ranch hands.  

Arlington and Frisco have become metroplex playgrounds. In Arlington, you can cheer on the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers at AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park, respectively. If you’re a fan, make it a point to take a stadium tour - the best time to make it happen is during the off-season or on days when games are not being played. For some other sports fun, visit the International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame. This entertaining and informative museum traces the history and changes in bowling throughout time and even has some opportunities to roll a ball. Then, you can take things up a notch at Six Flags Over Texas, where you can ride some of the tallest, fastest roller coasters in the nation. 

Frisco has also become a must-see destination for sports fans. It’s now home to Dr Pepper Arena, the official practice facility of the Dallas Stars hockey team; Dr Pepper Ballpark, home to the Frisco RoughRiders baseball team; and Toyota Stadium, home to the FC Dallas soccer team. Recently, the city gained the Ford Center at the Star, aka the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters and practice facility. For more Frisco fun, you can play vintage consoles at the National Videogame Museum, tour the trains at the Museum of the American Railroad and stretch your brain at the Sci-Tech Discovery Center. You can also walk through more than 40 contemporary Texas sculptures at the Texas Sculpture Garden.

And with the Mesquite Championship Rodeo July through October in Mesquite, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Go Ape! Treetop Adventure in Plano, Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary in McKinney and so much more to do throughout the metroplex, there are myriad options for you to discover. Just be sure to bring your sense of adventure along for the ride.
