Founded on Hords Creek in an area of rolling plains and wide bottomlands. A typical frontier settlement, the first store was hardly completed before a cemetery was laid out for the loser in a cowboy gunfight. A replica of Camp Colorado is in the Coleman City Park complex. The area offers abundant hunting of deer, quail, dove and turkey, as well as fishing, boating and water sports on nearby lakes. Coleman lies on U.S. 84, a segment of the Ports-to-Plains Highway connecting the state's heartland to coastal ports. The Coleman PRCA Rodeo is in June, and Fiesta de la Paloma is in October.
