Goldthwaite is noted for year-round fishing at nearby Colorado River and Pecan Bayou, as well as seasonal hunting. The town lies on U.S. 183, a segment of the Ports-to-Plains Highway. The Regency Suspension Bridge across the Colorado River, is one of the few swinging bridges in use in the state. Approximately 20 miles west off F.M. 574. The historic Old Jail building is on the courthouse square (1003 Fisher St.).
