Spanish explorers established the Mission San Antonio de Valero (later called the Alamo) and Presidio San Antonio de Bexar (Bay-her) in 1718. Now the city has five historic locations that represent the largest concentration of Spanish colonial missions in North America. ‰Educational institutions include San Antonio College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip's College, the University of the Incarnate Word, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Our Lady of the Lake University, St. Mary's University, Trinity University, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Events include the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo in mid-February, the Starving Artists Show each Easter, Fiesta San Antonio in April, the Texas Folklife Festival in June, and the Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony in November.
